Back when I used to manage our Overland Park locations I would occasionally get the opportunity to train wholesale accounts. It wasn’t as often as I would have liked, but it helped me understand that training was something that I was extremely interested in pursuing. I hoped that one day I might be able to help create a training program that would be akin to a coffee college. After a few years of part time training, I finally had the opportunity to move out to our wholesale facility and engage the majority of my time in training our wholesale accounts, as well as interested individuals. Over the span of the last two years we have been moving towards a more standardized program with different course offerings and I am excited to announce that they are now available through our website! Currently we have eight options listed, 6 of which have dates set. As time goes on, we will add more and more to our list of offerings, so keep your eyes peeled for different sessions and opportunities!

Training, in many ways, is the cornerstone of any successful coffee business. You can use the best coffee available, have the best possible location, and buy top of the line equipment, but without proper instruction on preparation methods, there is no guarantee of success. With the specialty coffee industry on the rise, consumers are becoming more informed of their choices and, as a result, their tastes are becoming more discerning. With this increase in consumer knowledge, it takes more than a great location and a good marketing plan to compete in the marketplace. That being the case, we are launching an improved training program here at PT’s Coffee Roasting Co. Look for new class offerings on our website under the training section. We hope that the new format will better serve the needs of the customer, and ultimately the end consumer.
