Mexican National Barista Championship

Monday, August 14th, 2006

PTs Coffee Blog

Well, the wake up call came a little too early for my liking this morning. But never the less, I boarded the plane on time and have traveled down south to Mexico City for the Mexican National Barista Championship.
This will be the second time I’ve judged in this competition and I must say I’m really looking forward to it. The competitors are really very talented and take the competition very seriously.

I’m joined on the judges panel this year by Brent Fortune of Creme Cafe and Bakery in Portland Ore., Tone from Solberg and Hansen in Oslo Norway.

Panama Esmeralda- first roast.

Friday, August 11th, 2006

It took less than two hours for the crew at the roasting facility to finish off a three liter airpot of the first sample roast of Panama Esmeralda. In 100 degree heat no less! Needless to say it tastes amazing and we will be rolling out production roasts of this extremely limited coffee starting this Tuesday (Aug. 15) and every Tuesday to follow until we sell out, or the staff drinks it all, which ever comes first. So do yourself a favor and get your hands on a bag of this before its all gone.

RETAILING IN THE FALL SEASON

Friday, August 4th, 2006

As I sit in the air-conditioned indoors, I can’t help but think that it’s already August….and that means fall is just around the corner. Coffee weather.

Let’s face it, in the midwest we all truly appreciate fall more than any other season…especially in the coffee industry. With the weather changes I’ve been trying to cook up some good fall drinks…hot and cold to accommodate the possibility of an indian summer. I always think of butterscotch and toffee as good fall flavors. They make me think of pumpkin patches and that warm fall smell. mmmmmmm

With all that being said, it’s never to early to start planning for the busy busy holiday season. Ideally, you should have your holiday merchandise picked out at this point and be ready to put in the order in the next week or two. Distributors get very backed up in the last quarter of the year so get while the gettin’ is good! Need some ideas?

These are some unique mugs that we’ve carried in the past.

You can have your logo added to these mugs and they look quite kitsch!

Oral Fixation mints make great stocking stuffers…

And high end coffees like Cup of Excellence or Panama Esmeralda, or the standard Jamaica and Kona go like hot cakes!

If you have any questions or need more ideas you can write me and I’ll help you in any way I can!

Until the fall!
Holly
